Terms of Service

The short version. Use the Service fairly, review AI-generated content before you rely on it, and cancel any time from your account. See our Privacy Policy for how we handle your data.
1. Who these terms are with
Career Playbook is operated by HKM Consulting ("we", "us"). These terms apply whenever you use thecareerplaybook.co.uk or the Career Playbook app ("the Service"). Creating an account, using the Free Taster scan, or paying for a subscription means you accept these terms. If you don't agree with them, please don't use the Service.
2. The Service
Career Playbook provides AI-assisted and rule-based CV scoring, CV building, cover letter generation, LinkedIn profile optimisation, and related career tools, at the tiers described on our Pricing page. Paid tiers may include a booked consultation with a human expert, subject to availability. We may add, change, or remove individual features over time; we'll try to give reasonable notice of anything that materially reduces what a paid tier includes.
3. Accounts
You must provide accurate information when registering and keep your login secure. You're responsible for activity that happens under your account. Tell us straight away at contact@thecareerplaybook.co.uk if you think your account has been compromised.
4. Subscriptions, billing, and cancellation
Paid tiers are billed on a recurring basis via Stripe. You can cancel at any time from your account dashboard; you keep access until the end of the billing period you've already paid for, and we don't provide partial-period refunds except where required by law. The one-off Expert Review is a single payment for a single service and is non-refundable once the briefing has been generated or the session has been booked, except where required by law. Because our AI tools and scoring results are generated for you individually and made available immediately on payment, by subscribing or purchasing you expressly request that we begin supplying the digital service straight away, and you acknowledge that doing so means you lose the 14-day cancellation right you would otherwise have under the Consumer Contracts (Information, Cancellation and Additional Charges) Regulations 2013 once we've started supplying it. This doesn't affect your separate statutory right to cancel a recurring subscription for the future, as described above, or any right you have if the Service is faulty.
5. AI-generated content
Bullet points, cover letters, summaries, and other text our AI tools generate for you are provided as a starting point, not a guarantee of interview success or job offers. You're responsible for reviewing AI-generated content for accuracy before using it. Don't submit anything to an employer that overstates your experience or that you haven't checked. Content generated specifically for your account, from your own CV or profile data, is yours to use. We don't claim ownership over it, but we also don't warrant it's error-free, complete, or suited to any particular employer's requirements.
6. Free Taster and ATS scores
Free Taster scans and ATS scores are automated estimates based on the CV and job description you provide. They're a useful signal, not a certification, and results can vary between scans of similar documents. Free Taster scans are processed without an account. We do not store your uploaded CV. We only keep the scan result, which is deleted automatically after 24 hours, as described in our Privacy Policy.
7. Acceptable use
Don't use the Service to upload content you don't have the right to use, to submit someone else's LinkedIn profile without their knowledge and agreement, to attempt to bypass tier limits or rate limits, to reverse-engineer or scrape the Service, or to use it for any unlawful purpose. We may suspend or terminate accounts that misuse the Service.
8. Third-party services
Some features rely on third-party providers: Stripe for payment, Cal.com for booking, Apify for LinkedIn profile retrieval, Azure OpenAI for AI processing. Availability of these features depends on those providers; we're not responsible for their downtime or changes to their own terms. 9. Liability
We provide the Service on an "as available" basis. To the extent permitted by law, we're not liable for indirect or consequential losses, including lost earnings or missed job opportunities arising from your use of the Service or reliance on AI-generated content or scores. Nothing in these terms limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, fraud, or anything else that can't lawfully be excluded under UK law.
10. Termination
You can close your account at any time from Account → Delete account, which permanently erases your data as described in our Privacy Policy. We may suspend or terminate your access if you breach these terms, with notice where reasonably possible.
11. Governing law
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have exclusive jurisdiction over any dispute, without prejudice to any mandatory consumer protections that apply in your place of residence.
12. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms to reflect changes in the Service or the law. Material changes will be notified by email to registered users at least 14 days before taking effect. The current version is always available at www.thecareerplaybook.co.uk/terms.
